VIII. FINAL GRADES

Faculty are reminded of its responsibility in grading and promptly returning student work/assignments. Faculty are responsible for submitting mid-semester assessments and final grades in myHill by the date established on the academic calendar. The deadline for the submission of final grades is three full business days after the end of the examination period, except for senior grades in the spring semester, which are due on the Monday immediately prior to Commencement. These deadlines are critical because they initiate a series of highly time-sensitive processes:

  • Staff in the Office of Academic Advising and the Registrar’s Office must identify students who do not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress;
  • The Standards & Standing Committee must convene to review each case;
  • Students placed on Academic Probation or dismissed must be notified promptly and given time to submit appeals; and,
  • The Standards & Standing Committee must evaluate those appeals and final decisions must be communicated quickly so students can plan for the spring semester and summer session

During these weeks, our colleagues dedicate significant time to advising and mentoring some of our most vulnerable students, living out our mission even after many of us have concluded our semester’s work. To ensure this process begins on time and with complete information, it is essential that grades are submitted promptly each term—missing or late grades severely hinder the Standards & Standing Committee’s ability to accurately determine academic standing.

Once the deadline for final grade submission has passed, the Registrar’s Office will inform the Deans and Vice President for Academic Affairs of any missing grades so that they can then follow up with the faculty who are late in submitting their final grades.
